With one of the season's biggest surprises, some high scoring, and a number of thrilling late finishes, the NFL delivered a spectacular Sunday in week eight. The Arizona Cardinals and the Green Bay Packers both won with the final kick of their games, while the humble Cleveland Browns stunned the fiery Baltimore Ravens with a quarterback change.

The Washington Commanders upset the Chicago Bears, and Jayden Daniels stole the show with a spectacular "once in a lifetime" Hail Mary against fellow rookie Caleb Williams.

The San Francisco 49ers increased their pressure on longtime rivals the Dallas Cowboys, the Detroit Lions reached a half-century, and the Kansas City Chiefs remained undefeated.

As the Browns defeat the Ravens, Winston shines.

With a touchdown pass to Cedric Tillman just 59 seconds from the end, new quarterback Jameis Winston led the Baltimore Ravens, who were heavy favorites over the Browns in Cleveland, to a thrilling 29–24 surprise victory.

Deshaun Watson, the $230 million quarterback, led a lackluster offense that failed to score more than 18 points or gain 300 yards of offense in a game all season. Despite this, the Browns, who improved to two wins and six losses, had a strong defense.

Winston passed for 334 yards and three touchdowns in his first NFL start since September 2022, surpassing both of those records after Watson sustained a season-ending Achilles tendon injury last week.

Veteran Joe Flacco stepped out of semi-retirement and off the sofa to lead the team to the playoffs after Watson was hurt last year. Winston has at least given the squad life, but it is unlikely that he can do the same at 2–6.

An irate Jackson remarked, "You can look at the Browns’ record and say that’s a sorry team, but this is the NFL," following the Ravens' 5-3 loss.

Hail Mary resolves the dispute between Daniels and Williams

In just the sixth meeting of rookies selected first and second in the NFL Draft, Daniels and Williams both had difficult games. However, in a wild finale, Chicago rallied from a 12-point deficit to grab the lead with just 25 seconds remaining.

Before he threw a 52-yard Hail Mary pass that was tipped out of a group of players who were all rushing for the ball and ended up in the hands of Noah BrownStep forward Daniels, who danced around evading tacklers for almost 13 seconds before throwing a 52-yard Hail Mary pass, which was tipped out of a bunch of players all jumping for the ball and landed in the hands of Noah Brown, who was all alone in the end zone.

"That’s kind of like a once-in-a-lifetime experience," said Daniels of just the latest entry into an already lengthy highlights reel. "Not too many people get to experience stuff like that."

Despite the 18-15 loss, Williams showed plenty of promise for the 4-3 Bears but Daniels and the 6-3 Commanders look to be play-off bound.

Daniels, who danced around dodging tacklers for over 13 seconds, then threw a 52-yard Hail Mary pass that landed in the hands of Noah Brown, who was alone in the end zone, after being tipped out of a group of players who were all rushing for the ball.

Daniels remarked, "That’s kind of like a once-in-a-lifetime experience," to describe the most recent addition to an already extensive highlights reel. "Not too many people get to experience stuff like that."

Although Daniels and the 6-3 Commanders appear to be headed to the playoffs, Williams showed a lot of promise for the 4-3 Bears despite the 18–15 loss.
