The conflict between Israel and Palestine intensifies and innocent children are caught in the crossfire.
"Children torn apart" as Israel strikes a Palestinian shelter in Gaza
Locals describe the raid as a "massacre" after a jet destroyed the UN building and it collapsed on top of people.
According to officials and locals, Israel killed at least nine people when it struck a school sponsored by the UN that was providing shelter to displaced Palestinians.
As rescuers looked beneath the debris for other victims, Gaza's Civil Defense stated on Sunday that the attack at Asma School in the Shati refugee camp in Gaza City also injured a number of people.
Taher al-Rantisi described the incident as "a massacre" and claimed to have "saw a plane destroying the building, which collapsed on top of the people" there.
According to Rantisi, among the Palestinians taking refuge in the school building were "innocent children and elderly." He claimed that "all the people and children were torn apart" when the strike occurred.
Six bodies, including one of a small child, have been identified, according to the Civil Defense.
The Israeli military claimed it was "looking" into the reported airstrike, which is the most recent attack on shelters for displaced people in the Gaza Strip. The army claims the attack is directed against Hamas fighters.
The fled Palestinians who sought shelter at the UN school, according to paramedic Hussein Mohsen, came from Jabalia and other areas of northern Gaza, where Israeli soldiers have been enforcing a deadly siege for the fourth week.
The Israeli occupation has already targeted schools, according to Mohsen.
Israeli forces have attacked a number of schools that have been converted into shelters in recent months, alleging that Palestinian fighters were active there. Israel has not provided any proof to support this assertion.
Israeli bombing in the northern parts of the restricted Gaza Strip has forced tens of thousands of Palestinians to flee in recent days.
According to the Israeli military, its goal is to stop Hamas from reorganizing there.
However, rights organizations and Palestinians claim that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. Nearly 43,000 people have been killed by Israeli forces as the attack on Gaza enters its second year.
